Arizona high court rules in favor of Christian artists

NEW SHOP FIRST OF ITS KIND IN WASHINGTON STATE ACCORDING TO THE OWNER. SUPPORTERS ARE CALLING IT A HUGE WIN FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WHILE CRITICS SAY IT’S NOTHING BUT A LICENSE TO DISCRIMINATE. AT THE ARIZONA SUPREME COURT RULING IN FAVOR OF A PAIR OF CHRISTIAN ARTISTS WHO SAY THEIR RELIGIOUS FAITH WOULD BE VIOLATED IF THEY WERE FORCED TO COMPLY WITH A PHOENIX ORDINANCE THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM TO DECLINE WORK FOR SAME-SEX MARRIAGE INVITATIONS.>>TODAY’S VICTORY IS NOT A WIN JUST FOR BREANNA AND ME, IT’S A VICTORY FOR EVERYONE. EVERYONE SHOULD BE FREE TO PEACEFULLY LIVE AND WORK ACCORDING TO THEIR BELIEFS WITHOUT FEAR OF UNJUST PUNISHMENT.>>Shannon: THE RULING IS NOT WITHOUT LIMITS AND DOES LEAVE SOME UNANSWERED QUESTIONS. LET’S BRING IN ONE OF THOSE ARTISTS, AND FROM THE ALLIANCE DEFENDING FREEDOM ATTORNEY KRISTIN, GREAT TO HAVE EVOLVED WITH US.>>THANKS FOR HAVING US.>>Shannon: I WANT TO PLAY SOMETHING WITH THE PHOENIX MAYOR SAID IN RESPONSE TO THE RULING, HERE’S WHAT SHE SAYS.>>FREEDOM OF RELIGION DOES NOT MEAN FREEDOM TO DISCRIMINATE. PERSONAL CONVICTIONS CANNOT BE USED AS AN EXCUSE FOR OUTWARD BIGOTRY. IF YOU SERVE SOMEONE IN YOUR COMMUNITY, YOU SHOULD SERVE ALL THE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY. AS OUR FIRST AMENDMENT EXPERTS ARE ELOQUENTLY PUT IT, WE NEVER ALLOWED A COMMERCIAL BUSINESS TO JUSTIFY DISCRIMINATION AGAINST A PROTECTED CLASS BASED ON THE FIRST AMENDMENT. WE SHOULDN’T START NOW.>>Shannon: HOW DO YOU FEEL HAVING THIS REACTION FROM SOMEONE IN THE COMMUNITY?>>WE COULD NOT BE MORE THRILLED WITH THIS WIN. WE SERVE ALL PEOPLE. WE JUST CAN’T EXPRESS EVERY METHOD THROUGH OUR ARTWORK. THIS IS A GREAT DECISION FOR EVERY AMERICAN WHO VALUES THEIR FREEDOM. WE HAVE LOVED ART SINCE WE WERE LITTLE GIRLS AND CREATING THIS BUSINESS WAS A DREAM FOR US. SO WHEN WE CAME UP AGAINST THE PHOENIX LAW THAT WAS THREATENING US WITH JAIL TIME, WE WERE EXTREMELY CONCERNED AND HAD TO STAND UP SO WE ARE RELIEVED ABOUT THIS RULING TODAY.>>Shannon: YOU’VE TAKEN ON A NUMBER OF THESE CASES. I WANT TO READ SOMETHING ELSE THAT THE MAYOR TWEETED AND GET YOUR RESPONSE. SO THE RULING WAS EXTREMELY NARROW AND BECAUSE OF THAT NARROWNESS, THERE HAS BEEN SOME MISINTERPRETATION STATING THAT IT STRUCK THE ENTIRE CITY ORDINANCE, THAT IS FALSE. OUR ENTERITIS, NATION ORDINANCE STILL STANDS AND IS GOING NOWHERE. SO WHAT DOES, WHAT DOESN’T THE DECISION MEAN?>>THE DECISION IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST AND MOST WELL WRITTEN DECISIONS ON FREE SPEECH THAT I’VE SEEN IN MY CAREER. IN FACT, THE DECISION ITSELF OPENS BY SAYING THAT FREE SPEECH AND FREE EXERCISE RIGHTS ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE SOFT MURMURINGS THAT GO ON IN CHURCHES ARE PRIVATE HOMES. BUT THAT ALL AMERICANS HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE ABLE TO USE AND SELL WORDS, PAINTINGS, AND TO CREATE ART THAT IS CONSISTENT WITH THEIR CONVICTIONS. SO THIS DOESN’T JUST PROTECT THEM, IT PROTECTS PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS AND PEOPLE OF NO FAITH TO BE ABLE TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS CONSISTENT WITH WHO THEY ARE.>>Shannon: I WANT TO READ SOMETHING FROM A FORMER MAYOR OF PHOENIX BECAUSE THIS ORDINANCE IS NOT BRAND-NEW. PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION INVOLVES SAID THIS DECISION WILL HARM OUR ECONOMY BY SENDING ME UNFORTUNATE MESSAGE THAT DISCRIMINATION ON THE GROUNDS OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION IS STILL ACCEPTABLE BY SOME STATE LEADERS, THAT IS A SAD LEGACY OF THIS DECISION. HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO THOSE WHO SAY THIS IS HURTFUL TO CERTAIN PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY, THAT IT IS BIGOTRY AND DISCRIMINATION?>>I WOULD SAY AGAIN, WE SERVE EVERYONE. WE JUST CAN’T COMMUNICATE EVERY MESSAGE THROUGH OUR ART AND THAT’S A FREEDOM EVERY ARTIST SHOULD HAVE AND SO WE THINK THIS IS A GREAT DAY FOR ARIZONA AND FOR ARTISTS EVERYWHERE, BECAUSE THE ARIZONA SUPREME COURT AFFIRMED FREEDOM AND THE RIGHT OF ARTISTS, NOT THE GOVERNMENT, TO MAKE THOSE EXPRESS DECISIONS.>>AND THE STATISTICS TELL US, RESEARCH TELLS US THAT NINE OUT OF THE TEN BEST STATES FOR BUSINESS IN THE UNITED STATES DON’T HAVE THESE LAWS AND 12 OF THE 13 WORSE STATES DO. THAT’S SIMPLY NOT TRUE.>>Shannon: WE KNOW THERE ARE MORE CASES ON A COLLISION COURSE POTENTIALLY TO THE SUPREME COURT. WE ARE WATCHING US AS WELL. THERE WILL BE MORE AND MORE OF

  • The Mayor of Phoenix sounds like a fascist wannabe. I love it when SJWs get a dose of reality. Republicans need to get out and win in Arizona.

  • Acknowledging the original inhabitants of this continent, the first settlers came in search of religious freedom. How wonderful our court system can still see the importance of this journey.

  • If you serve one person in your community, you should serve all people in your community. Oh, except if they are Trump supporters in which case you can refuse to serve them and ask them to leave. What a vile, hypocritical no shame group liberals are.

  • FREEDOM OF RELIGIOUS EXPRESSION, PRAISE GOD!😁
We can express our Love for YESHUA and no one can stop
    us 🇺🇸🙏🏻❤️Amen to that 👍

  • Why can't these sexually confused just move on and find another company to make their invitations? Because they want to ram their deviancy down our throats. They should be thankful that obama packed the courts with extremist homosexual activist judges to allow them to come out. You are screwing up a good thing, Americans are getting fed up with your strutting.

  • Congratulations on your win in court to uphold your religious freedom and your constitutional rights. Continue to stand strong for what you believe in.

  • Homosexuality is wrong. Demonizing these Christians is persecution. The Bible and Constitution is toilet paper to these atheists. Time to fight back and endure because Scripture is unfolding and really here!

  • The application of Saul Alinsky in American leftist politics. Claim that the other party is doing what you are doing: in this case, the LGBTQ movement is discriminating against Christians, literally trying to force them to adopt their lifestyle and beliefs, all the while pretending to be the victim.

  • These alphabet people don't want tolerance. They want us to accept them as normal, by force if necessary. You aren't normal. That doesn't mean you're any less of a human being. That doesn't mean I hate you or don't think you should have equal rights. That just means that I will not be forced into saying you're normal no matter how many laws you pass. I will never be forced to change my thoughts and values to somehow make you feel normal. Because you're not.

  • This Great Nation was founded by the Christian value why others allowed to smear its belief and value?

  • Nobody has sued Brush and Nib, and their "calligraphy" is illegible scrawl. This is just just bitter, talentless pre-emptive nonsense that demonstrates Christian Christian hate.

  • To solve the Delima of who to serve in your place of business. Place a sign that states " We reserve the right to refuse your business." That way everybody that goes in would know you might not serve them. Not a bad way back in the 70's.

  • Gods greatest gift of free will enables one to say no as well as yes. Jesus himself will discriminate when he refuses to let thiose who do not accept him into his kingdom. Mans attempts to legislate otherwise have no standing .

  • I just find it so stupid to hear those people crying foul just because they didn't get what they want. the girl and other business owners are entitled to decline something that goes againts their belief and it's called FREEDOM. do not be swayed by this kind of people of narrow minds and twisted reality that fits their comfort. THEIR TRUTH is far different from THE TRUTH.

  • ANY BUSINESS CAN REFUSE ANY “PATRON” FOR ANY REASON…PERIOD!!! CHRISTIANS ARE COMING BACK AND GOD IS FINALLY RE-ESTABLISHING HIS DOMINANCE OVER AMERICA…BEGINNING BY SELECTING OUR GOD ANOINTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 🇺🇸, DONALD J. TRUMP!!! MAGA!!!

  • The problem with queers and the ABC community is they want to be able to force u to accept their sinful practices and then the refuse to support your right to refuse their sinful practice.

  • Trump 2020 he is a christian and god is on his side knowone has the right to make a christian use there talent to go against GOD

  • Every time I feel like “accepting” the lgbtqrstuv agenda, I’m reminded that it has to be shoved down my throat, celebrated, and heralded as protected, honored, and respected…….

  • The correct decision, this law infringes upon one groups rights, claiming to defend another groups rights and that is unjust, especially when the perspective client in this case has other options.

  • So many of these towns are out of control with these "laws" passed to patronize this group and that group. Vote out the clowns and go back to freedom minus the police state tactics.

  • Religious and artistic freedom of expression trumps a bigoted (intolerant) and bossy political correctness from the pushy Phoenix mayor, your typical, chip on the shoulder, open borders latina. An Ana Navarro clone.

  • Liberals attacking Christians is the new normal. This is exactly why we must make sure Democrats don't get in the White House!

  • Yet businesses can refuse service to cops or people wearing MAGA hats if they chose. I don’t think this mayor would object to that.

  • This isn't just a 1st Amendment issue it is, perhaps more importantly, a 13th amendment issue. Compensated or not NO ONE has the ability to force another to INVOLUNTARILY work for them.

  • I'll never understand the need of some people to feel like victims. It's now about their freedom to do whatever with whomever but more about sticking their behavior up everyone else's noses. Go live your lives, be happy (if you can) and leave the rest of us alone!

  • A simple solution to this problem if a company can be identified as a person which by the way is already recognized by law they can also be identified as being of a particular religion. Therefore that company like a person would be protected under the 1st Amendment. Which is why Hobby Lobby could not be forced to provide their employees health insurance which covered contraceptives which goes against Church teachings. The owner of Hobby Lobby is a Catholic therefore their company would also be identified as Catholic even though it receives no money or recognition by the Catholic Church as a Catholic institution. The owner owns the company therefore their religious beliefs would be the same as the company which they own if they choose. I mean you have companies which can be identified as Liberal having Liberal ideologies like Facebook and Google the owners of these companies are also themselves Liberals. The only difference religion is protected under the 1st Amendment while political belief might not be if it is an open forum in which case it should be unbiased.

  • How is forcing a Christian to go against their beliefs NOT discrimination towards that Christian? It’s a two way argument! Christians have rights as well!

  • Why don't fags go to other fags for this kind of services? They deliberately seek out Christian's.its ridiculous! The freedoms of this country give citizens the right to like or dislike others as well as to disagree with anything they choose and the liberals are trying to take yet another right from people by trying to force people to accept their things.just let people be and if they don't like something, then they don't.

  • We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone! Oregon is a free state! No shirt, no shoes, no service! Anyone who is a threat to others will be escorted off the premises! Etc.etc.

  • Serve ALL does not mean going against moral convictions! Next, they'll want us to coddle murderers & rapists too! My judge is God, not the government!

  • We need to stop letting LGBT push us around and bully us, Drew Brees apologizing because he got bullied. What kind of stuff is that?? Stand up to these demons and watch them fume at the mouth.

  • This is what pisses me off about the LGBT community they demand their rights while at the same time strip the rights of others to suit.

  • What I don't get is why do these gals have to do things that don't go with their beliefs ,and why don't the people that are trying to force them to just hire someone else 🤔

  • What about the restaurant which kicked out Sarah and her kids out on bigotry? These people who are lecturing these 2 women don't have anything to say to that restaurant owner?

  • I live in phoenix. I do not discriminate. I think anyone who does is a bad person. A hypocrite. Religion does not include or hail discrimination. These people can judge all they want but it doesn't make them right. And I am sure no gays have ever tried to persecute them for their beliefs.

  • Our 1st amendment protects our right to use profanity and talk about horrible things – should it be illegal to refuse business to those who speak profanely? Should it be law, to be forced to accept contracts with anyone, who simply wants for whatever reason to business with another? We have freedom of choice for a reason – and people ought to choose what businesses they do business with instead of having the state/government choose for them because they don't understand what freedom and liberty truly are.

  • Has nothing to do with religion. A business has the right to choose wether or not to serve a customer at their own discretion.

  • Government is not above God. Honestly anyone should be permitted to refuse business to anyone for any reason because if both parties don’t agree they can do business elsewhere.

  • Homosexual marriage is still not legal, the Supreme Court does not make laws, they ignored previous rulings and making the marriage ruling based upon personal feelings not the US Constitution or federal law. The Supreme Court Justices that ruled in favor of the Homosexuals performed Homosexual marriages and talked about the case, they should have recused themselves and since they did not impeachment hearings should have been done.

  • They serve everyone; they just can't communicate every message through their art. Congratulations on the constitutional victory.

  • The statement "we serve everyone" is not ever needed. No one serves everyone. Everyone picks and chooses precisely who they are targetting for sales, for ex. And no one needs to conform to the true bigots, the evil elite who hate humans and freedom and we don't have to share even one of their values, at all, not their true values, they are the true biggots and haters, but their pretend values. We don't have to like open borders, destructions of our nations, the culture of every migrant, we don't have to support gender issues either. We don't have to be politically correct. And women don't need to have their sports hijacked or their bathrooms. Build a 3rd if necessary. We don't need to have high risk people enter our nations either.

  • I’m queer as the day is long. I see this as a good thing. I don’t believe they are bigots at all. They have faith and conviction and I respect that. I’d love to see a far left queer artists be forced to paint a maga piece. The left would support them denying service then.

  • They don't "serve" the public. They are not public servants. It's a personal business, and they deserve the right to do business the way they choose. For every business that makes the same choice as they, there are dozens that will. Quit cryin'.

  • So sick of these people that have no morals anymore. Freedom of religion, press, assembly, speech, and petition of government is in the first amendment. Nothing else.

  • PRAISE THE LORD. .THE TRUTH IS. TOUGH TO HEAR WE ARE ALL SINNERS. I PRAY FOR EVERYBODY IN THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS AMEN. FREE WILL IS OURS

  • Just go to another artist. They sue because they want to force their beliefs on other people. If I don’t want to serve someone oh well. It’s their store they worked hard for not mine. Why would you want to force your beliefs or presence where your not wanted

  • I am not sure what this case is about. Are these women fighting to be able to choose to deny service to those they may not like?

For something subjective as religious beliefs, I think it's fair to say they can refuse service if they feel justified.
Now, as an experiment, I would like to see how much money it would take to go against their beliefs. Everyone has a price.
