Chapter-by-Chapter Reconciliation

ah I made a mistake have you ever seen one of these old-fashioned typewriters that's what people typed on before the age of computers the biggest problem was when you made a mistake there was no delete button you had to fix your mistake or start all over with a new sheet of paper we're lucky today when you type something on a laptop and you hit the wrong letter you just press the delete button to start over so much faster and easier starting over can be a wonderful thing sometimes we need to make a fresh start after doing something the wrong way it's great to have a second chance when we became members of God's family through the sacrament of baptism we were given everything we needed to follow Jesus and remain close to him we were also given free will free will means that following Jesus is something that we choose to do not something that we are forced to do we choose to follow Jesus because we know that it is the best thing for us and keeps us close to God but sadly sometimes we make bad choices choices that separate us from God's love so how can we learn to make good choices and avoid making bad choices first of all not all choices are the same some choices are easy like what to eat or what to watch on TV other choices are more complicated for us because we're choosing between what's right and what's wrong we call that a moral choice to help us make good moral choices we can and should do the following we stop before we act we think about the Ten Commandments we ask for help and we pray to the Holy Spirit making the right choice is not always easy and it doesn't always feel good at first and bad choices don't always look bad on the surface that's why we are tempted to me make bad choices but after making a bad choice we may recognize that we've hurt ourselves or others and turned away from God's love when a bad choice is very serious we call it a mortal sin a mortal sin is a choice we make to reject God's love and to knowingly do something wrong that will hurt others we must always confess mortal sins by telling them to a priest in the sacrament of reconciliation some of the bad choices we make are not as serious we call these venial sins through these choices we don't reject God's love but ignore it these bad choices can hurt our relationships with Jesus and others but remember that while we may separate ourselves from God's love God never takes his love away from us Jesus is always ready to forgive our sins and bring us back into God's love as long as we are sorry we will always have another chance every trace of our sin is wiped away and we can start over again filled with the grace we received in baptism human beings are not perfect we sometimes make bad choices sometimes we need second chances we are so blessed to have a God who loves us and wants us to have another chance after we've made bad choices that's why the sacrament of reconciliation is such a wonderful gift through this sacrament we get another chance to choose God the Father's love and to remain close to him through His Son Jesus let's pray repeat the words after me Jesus my friend helped me to make good choices amen in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit amen
