Exclusive first look from Liberty University Freedom Tower

WE’RE GETTING AN EXCLUSIVE VIEW FROM ABOVE THE TOP OF LIBERTY UNIVERSITY’S FREEDOM TOWER … WHILE IT’S STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION. WSLS 10 WAS THE ONLY REPORTING TEAM WITH JERRY FALWELL, JUNIOR AND HIS FAMILY, AS HE WENT UP FOR THE FIRST TIME. ANGELA HATCHER TAKES A LOOK AT THE CONSTRUCTION SO FAR AND A LOOK AHEAD AT THE TOWER’S COMPLETION. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP.” JERRY FALWELL, JUNIOR GETS HIS COURAGE UP… ON THE WAY… WAY… WAY UP RIDE IN THE CONSTRUCTION LIFT. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “I CAME UP HERE ABOUT TWO WEEK AGO AND I WENT UP ABOUT 5 FLOORS. FORGOT MY PHONE. WANTED TO GET SOME PICTURES, SO I WENT BACK DOWN.” FALWELL ADMITS HE’S ALWAYS BEEN AFRAID OF HEIGHTS. THE FIRST STOP THIS TIME IS ABOUT HALF WAY UP LIBERTY’S FREEDOM TOWER. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “HOLY MOLY. WHOA.” HIS REACTION LOOKING STRAIGHT ACROSS AT THE LU MONOGRAM. NOW THERE’S NO TURNING BACK. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “WE GOTTA GO A LITTLE BIT FURTHER.” ON THE 15TH FLOOR… THERE’S A LADDER. NOT A STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN… BUT AS CLOSE AS HE’LL GET ON THIS CLIMB. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “I GUESS I GOTTA DO IT.” CONSTRUCTION WORKER – “LOOKING PRESIDENT – “I GUESS I GOTTA DO IT.” CONSTRUCTION WORKER – “LOOKING GOOD JERRY, LOOKING GOOD. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “ALRIGHT, I DID IT. CHEERS WHOA. I MADE IT.” JERRY GUESS I GOTTA DO IT.” CONSTRUCTION WORKER – “LOOKING GOOD JERRY, LOOKING GOOD. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “ALRIGHT, I DID IT. CHEERS WHOA. I MADE IT.” JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “LOOK AT THAT. THAT’S A GREAT VIEW. I WANT TO GET A PICTURE OF THAT.” HE MADE IT… THIS TIME WITH PHONE IN HAND. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT -“SO RIGHT HERE WE’RE PROBABLY AT… WHAT’S THE ELEVATION?… 250 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND? YEAH ROUGHLY. 250.” ANGELA HATCHER/REPORTI NG – “THE TOWER WILL BE EVEN HIGHER IF YOU CAN IMAGINE IT. FROM WHERE I’M STANDING, LOOK UP TO THE TOP OF THE CRANE. THAT’S ABOUT WHERE IT WILL STOP.” ONCE COMPLETED BY FALL SEMESTER, THE TOWER WILL BE 17 STORIES. BUT EVEN THAT NUMBER DOESN’T TELL THE FULL STORY, OR HEIGHT. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “EACH FLOOR IS 14 FOOT CEILINGS, SO IT’S REALLY AS TALL AS A 27 STORY BUILDING.” JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “IT’S SORT OF THE CROWNING JEWEL OF ALL THE BUILDING THAT WE’VE DONE SO FAR.” THE NEW HOME OF THE HOOL OF DIVINITY, CLASSROOMS D MEETING AND EVENT SPACES. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “A REPLICA OF THE LIBERTY BELL. THAT BELL WILL HANG IN THE TOP OF THE TOWER WITH ABOUT 26 OTHER BELLS.” FREEDOM RINGING FROM THE APTLY NAMED TOWER. FROM HERE, ON PAPER, IT DOESN’T LOOK SO SCARY. JERRY FALWELL, JR./LIBERTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT – “WE WERE STANDING RIGHT HERE JUST NOW.” WHERE STUDENTS WILL STAND COME FALL. IN LYNCHBURG, ANGELA HATCHER, WSLS 10.
