Food Freedom- One Year of Growing and Foraging 100% of My Food

Hey, I’m Rob Greenfield, activist and adventurer, and I’m starting one of my most challenging adventures yet. For one year, I’m going to grow and forage one hundred percent of my food. Now, what does that mean? No grocery stores. No restaurants. No eating food at a party. No drinks at a bar. For an entire year: no bread, no pasta, nothing processed or packaged. No chocolate. You get the picture! Now, you might imagine me in the countryside living on a farm. But nope! I’m right here, in the City of Orlando, living in a hundred square foot tiny house that I built out of repurposed materials. With no land of my own, I’m turning my neighbors’ front yards into gardens and growing food on them, and sharing the bounty with them. I’m also urban foraging, finding food that’s growing freely all around us, whether it be fruit trees with a bounty falling to the ground, or weeds that are highly delicious, and nutritious, and medicinal. And I’ll take trips outside of the city to forests, where I’ll harvest giant wild yams and mushrooms, and to the ocean, where I’ll catch fish and harvest my own sea salt. I embark on extreme adventures and activism campaigns to wake people up to the important issues of our time and educate on them.>From wearing all of my trash for 30 days to create a visual of how much garbage just one American creates, to cycling across the United States three times on a bamboo bicycle, raising awareness about sustainability, to diving into thousands of dumpsters to blow the lid off of how much perfectly good food goes to waste in our food system. An entire year of growing and foraging one hundred percent of my food and not eating anything from the globalized industrialized food system. Now that’s extreme! But the good news is you don’t have to go that far. This adventure is about showing the problems, but more importantly, learning the solutions. Eating local, knowing our farmers, growing some of our own food, and understanding where our food comes from and connecting with it. That’s what this is all about, and I invite you to join me on this adventure. Subtitles by the community
