Groundbreaking ceremony for new office tower in downtown Boston

GREENWAY AND IT WON’T LOOK THE
SAME. THE SHOVELS ARE SYMBOLICALLY OUT
BUT THE DIRT HAS ALREADY BEEN
TURNED. THE CRANES ARE ALREADY HERE. ONE CONGRESS WILL STAND 600
FEET. THE TALLEST BOSTON OFFICE
BUILDING SINCE 1984 WITH ONE
MILLION SQUARE FEET OF OFFICE
SPACE.>>THIS OPPORTUNITY ALLOWS
PEOPLE TO HAVE EMPLOYMENT EARN A
PAYCHECK BOTH AS IT’S BEING
BUILT AS CONSTRUCTION FOLKS ON
THE JOB BUT THEN WHEN IT’S DONE
, HAVING JOBS INSIDE THE BUILDING. JOSH: WHAT’S CURRENTLY HERE IS
THE GOVERNMENT CENTER GARAGE.>>WE LOVED THE FACT THAT THIS
BUILDING WAS SO UGLY. WE’RE GOING TO KNOCK THAT GARAGE
DOWN AND CONGRESS STREET WILL
SEE LIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME I
BELIEVE IN 70 YEARS. JOSH: HERE’S A LOOK AT WHAT IT
WILL BE DOWN THE ROAD. WITH DEVELOPMENT COMES
CONGESTION, ESPECIALLY WHILE
CONSTRUCTION IS ONGOING UNTIL
2022. THIS IS NOT A CORNER WITHOUT ITS
CURRENT CONSTERNATION. THE INTERSECTION OF NEW CHARDON,
MERRIMAC, AND CONGRESS STREETS
ALREADY HAS VOLUME. HERE’S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AT
9:20 LONG PAST THE MORNING RUSH
HAS, IN THEORY, SUBSIDED AND
DRIVERS HAVE FOUND PLACES TO
PARK.>>THEY ARE STILL GOING TO KEEP
SOME OF THE GARAGE HERE BUT IT’S
, NOT FULL EVERY DAY SO WHEN YOU
SEE OVER TIME IT ACTUALLY SITS
EMPTY MOST OF THE DAY
A LOT OF THESE NEW BUILDINGS WERE BUILDING THE LACK OF NEED
FOR PARKING IS RAISING. JOSH: STATE STREET WILL BE —
THEY WILL HAVE MORE THAN — THE
STATE STREET CORPORATION WILL
HAVE HALF OF THIS CONSTRUCTION
