Hundreds Of Philadelphia Energy Solutions Employees Lose Job Following Refinery Fire

THE CONFERENCE RUNS THROUGH SATURDAY. TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY ON THE JOB FOR HUNDREDS OF EMPLOYEES WHO WORKED AT THE PHILADELPHIA ENERGY SOLUTIONS REFINERY. THE SOUTH PHILADELPHIA REFINERY SHUT DOWN AFTER A MASSIVE FIRE ON JUNE 21ST. A FEW DAYS LATER THE COMPANY ANNOUNCED IT WOULD CLOSE AND THE REFINERY WOULD BE PUT UP FOR SALE. 280 UNION WORKERS WERE LET GO TODAY. WE SPOKE WITH ONE OF THEM. HE’D WORKED AT THE REFINERY FOR 13 YEARS. IT’S JUST CONCERNING. OBVIOUSLY WE’RE NOT BEING OFFERED MEDICAL, SO YOU’RE CONCERNED WITH YOUR FAMILY FOR HEALTHCARE FOR ANY ISSUES. AND THEN IT’S JUST ABOUT FINDING ANOTHER JOB. WE ARE IN A SPECIALIZED FIELD WHERE THERE AREN’T A WHOLE LOT OF JOBS LOCALLY THAT WE CAN JUST GO TO.
