JT’s rough ride, Lingmerth looks to repeat

When it’s Friday-eve and you are ready
to leave. Annc: Forget about the birdie, that’s an eagle 2 for Scott Stallings. No one knew what to expect in Round 1 at Quicken
Loans National. The first PGA TOUR event since TPC Potomac
at Avenel Farm’s redesign back in 2006. They said the course would be hard, but we
had a few players going after the course record Co-leader David Lingmerth chased after a 63
and nearly slam-dunked it on 18! Winning here back in 2012 on the Web.com TOUR,
he was one of the few in his comfort zone. But we did have several hole-outs, let’s
start with Marc Leishman who is just 1-stroke off the pace. Or what about Mackenzie Hughes on 16?! Annc: The rookie that one the RSM Classic at Sea Island. It’s hard to top Scott Stalling’s eagle
hole-out we led the show off with. But Fabian Gomez got the job done on 12. Justin Thomas nearly cashed in on a hole-in-one
from 213 yards with his 7 iron. Yes, a 213 yard 7 iron! Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler are the highest
ranking players in the FedEx Cup standings here this week. Thomas, with 3 wins this season and 3rd in
the standings – had an interesting day… With 5 circles, 5 squares AND a quadruple
bogey JT had an interesting scorecard and an interesting rendezvous in the high grass
on the 10th hole – where he had a rough go of it, no pun intended. Annc: Bottom line is he’s on his way to a very big score right now. He’s trying to keep it under 10. His buddy Rickie Fowler started off his day
plus-3 through 2 holes, but gained one back here on 12. What can I say, golf is hard. Right Wesley Bryan? So hard, sometimes you swing with your club upside down? Good thing Haas a good track record here,
like three top-4’s in his last four trips to the D.C. area. We are back in action again tomorrow on PGA
TOUR LIVE beginning at 7am ET. I’ll see you there, on social media for
Quicken Loans and then the Takeaway Friday night.
