"The Art of Leadership: A President's Personal Diplomacy" by @TheBushCenter

well like this afternoon I'll be up here about 2:30 and we'll paint – about six sometimes crank up some music and I just let her go that's the really wonderful thing about painting is that it's absolutely transporting two years ago I was sitting up here wondering how to kind of live life to the fullest and I read Winston Churchill's essay painting as a pastime and it inspired me I had never lifted a brush before I'd never mixed a paint so I gave it a whirl I spent a lot of time on personal diplomacy and befriended leaders I learned about their families and their in you know their likes and dislikes to the point where I felt comfortable painting him I watched a president george w bush really try to get to know the person across the table or sitting next to him in the Oval Office I saw even the most difficult leaders then began to talk about what mattered to them in a very deeply personal sense and having then broken the ice you can go on to the more difficult two questions I watched one of the best at personal diplomacy and my dad he was amazing about the friending people where there may not become an interests and I emulated that our ranch is very special to Loren me and one way to have conducted personal diplomacy was to include leaders into this very special special place one of the great things about personal diplomacy is inviting people to your own home and people love to come to our ranch Grand Prince Abdalla came to the ranch Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia there was a difficult moment taking place in the Middle East and we had a slight difference of opinion about how the situation our behalf and he was threatening to leave and so I before he left you know I said why don't you take a ride with me on the ranch I knew he loved the land he's got a farm that's very special to him and he and I became close we have a fairly significant age difference but nevertheless it was the beginning of a trusting relationship and I grew to be very fond of the Crown Prince soon to be king painting portraits of my friends and some people who weren't necessarily my friends gave me a sense to convey a feeling I have about them because I got to know them well during the presidency what people will be able to come away with is how do I feel about somebody I painted you know Tony Blair for example I gosh I must have met with him over 25 times I mean we became good friends I've painted a portrait of Tony with a lot of affection I wanted people to say he's a man of conviction I like him a lot I liked him when I was president I liked him when I was painting him the Dalai Lama is a friend of Lorin mind he captured her hearts because he's a very sweet man and I painted him as sweetly as I could I met with him quite frequently and we became friends I got to know Malik he will intentionally because he was the leader of a new democracy and of course we wanted that democracy to succeed I spent a lot of time talking to Prime Minister Maliki listening to his concerns we were in Iraq and we had gathered the tribes that would be the Anbar awakening the sheiks you could see President Bush being able to bring them together asking them well tell me about your family tell me about your family and just breaking the ice to the point that they actually can start to talk to each other it was really a quite remarkable moment during my presidency there was a pandemic that was destroying an entire generation of Africans and I decided that the United States should do something about it and so I had a chance to work with a lot of African leaders some of whom I painted when Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was elected the first woman president of Liberia I got to go and Barbara came with me my daughter and dr. Condoleezza Rice to represent the United States at the inauguration of the first woman president in a country in Africa they reported back you're gonna like this woman she is strong she's capable and they were right I traveled to Liberia visited with Ellen she has got a strong determination to succeed and so I painted her as a strong woman leader and she is I called Koizumi to thank him for his leadership of Japan during my presidency and he said he's gonna come to the States I said what would you like to do he said I want to go to Graceland I knew he loved Elvis I didn't realize how much he loved Elvis it was a hoot really fun for me that was a sign of successful personal diplomacy I thought you blue suede shoes well if see things differently and I'm still learning I think really what George is teaching everybody is that it's never too late to start something new now you can teach an old dog new tricks I expect I'll be painting till till I drop and my last stroke and I'm heading into the grave and wonder what color will be anyway it's been yeah it's been a joyful experience I fully understand that the signature is worth more than the painting you you

  • I always feel Bush families are very patriotic, principled, kind President. I respect both Presidents Bush’s decency toward others for our country America’s greatness of safety, prosperity and unity as well as freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities principles. The former Secretary of the State Rice has been the idle for all of us always. Let’s forgive each other this time and unite together again by our generosity forgiveness and kindness nature toward each other’s service and mistakes, move forward quickly together and govern by our country America’s own established laws afterwards together quickly for America’s greatness. All of us will be able to reunite together again and do better things quickly as one future of America’s greatness by America’s principles and patriotism together.

  • One thing is for sure that the former President Bush 43 mixed his kindness and humbleness into his paintings to appreciate whatever from his recalls. I guess artist’s creation or artistic compositions must rely on deep true feelings from own deep intuition of any events, especially as portrait paintings.

  • I know that the former British Prime Minister Blair has always been a loyal America’s friend to stand with America together always. Not easy to learn how to paint, but as long as consistently paint and never give up, one day would become great artist. The former President Bush is a very nice person besides Governing leadership busy jobs. I like to watch the Japan’s Administer’s singing and it seems he really likes the former President Bush.

  • Thank you President Bush 43 to share about this video with all of us. President Bush’s whole families are absolutely amazing by principles, kindness and decency altogether. This is why I love them all always. As the top government leadership position is never easy. Handle things by principles for America’s greatness, dealt with human’s nature of kindness and decency nature altogether by generosity of forgiveness and learning experiences from mistakes as chance giving through learning experiences and appreciation from good or better or ok part altogether. I guess President Bush 41’s heart of gold not only touched President Reagan’s heart to appoint him to be his Vice President for America’s greatness together, also influenced his children of all from learning experiences, I guess. Although I don’t know politics much, but I value our country America’s own established principles of Foundation and Constitution for freedoms and equality of the opportunities. I also pray for our own generosity of forgiveness nature to unite together again by our America’s principles through learning experiences to build America together again. If God’s mighty heart can forgive our sins, if from two President status leaderships are willing to help others to learn more to understand more and do better things quickly through their generosity nature and decency, will we ordinary Americans touched by this and learn together from our country America’s principles and understand more and do better things quickly together instead of mad forever or criticizing each other forever. Although I don’t know if I am right or wrong, somehow, I know mighty God will forgive and waiting for us to learn more to understand more and do better things quickly always. God bless America always and help our great nation to reunite us together by America’s principles, learning experiences and generosity of forgiveness nature to each other this time from his spirit. Amen. We then govern by our country America’s own established principles quickly together.

  • If the former President Bush is willing and being able to learn how to paint which he had never engaged into and becomes as an easy task for him and achieves it, then we should be interested and able to learn more to understand more and do better things in our life too. It’s never easy and less capabilities maybe, but trying more, achieve a little bit better, still is better than none though, I guess.

  • God bless you President Bush. What a pleasant couple, full of grace. I’m sure you are a wonderful person as said by the Dalai Lama of Tibet.

  • None Hitler associate report)))) you calladeral guilty or not guilty politics are Throwed out for calladeral your denied /denied year 2,017 you POLITICS are 100℅ Ggaarrbbaaggee Ttrraasshh Dduummppsstteerr you bet your whole POLITICS government to have me murdered now you don't have a political government empire

  • We will be able to learn so much from President Bush's meaningful painting as the friendship with other countries, as maintaining the peace of the world, as the influence from America's freedoms and equality of the opportunity, as the help to other Africa countries, as the appreciations to our own allies and other great leaders, as his own sentiment and friendship toward his friends through years, as his own strong spirit of America's own principles, as a former 2 terms patriotic President, as a son of our country's great President for America's principles and greatness, as a former President who wants to see a great united country-America for America's own principles and greatness, those unique paintings are very impressive and meaningful as our country's historical treasures, even in the world, I guess. Great arts are very enjoyed and cherished, but rarely a great artist as well as a 2 terms of the President of the United States and a son of one of the greatest President of the United States painted those most well known leaderships with pairs eyes can talk with their living spirit. Oh, God, I really wish one day, I'll be able to see those paintings.

  • President Bush is a principled as well as heart of the gold person who has tried his very best for America's greatness, even in his precious retired life, he still has done as much as he can for our disabled vets to heal spiritually and physically and cares about African women who suffer from AIDS and cancer. He is just the type of down to earth kind character, I guess. I pray for him and his family healthy and long life. I love President Bush and his family always.

  • What the fuck is this, my kid at the age of 7 painted much better than this idiot at retirement, shitty president, shitty painter, what a joke, do you really thing this is art, LOL!!! I have an idea who likes that moron, why didn't you buy any of that so called art!!!!

  • Все изображены с человечинкой, лица телесного цвета. И только Путин мертвенно-бледный и серый. Чуть лучше лишь китайский лидер и арабский шейх (тоже много серых красок). 0:50

  • I respect President Bush 43's cherishing, loyalty and decency to friends, family
members and what he believes in. It just like the similarities as his father President Bush 41 is also very loyal to his friends, families, country and to President Reagan's legacies altogether.

  • Poor George. He was an absolute tool. I read somewhere that Cheney really did run the White House until about 2006, until W. threw his sorry ass out and took control.

  • "Dick" Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were the real criminals behind the scheme. Bush was just a manchurian candidate. The man is good in person.

  • "The Art of Leadership"?? Are you fucking kidding me, this guy is the OPPOSITE of leadership, stupid clown. He should be thrown in jail right away and left to rot.
