The Civl War: Photography

if you came to our studios in Washington or New York to have your image struck a quarter plate image which is probably in today's standards a 5×7 would probably cost you about $5 when the average person earned about a dollar 25 a week okay so I was the photographer of the rich and the famous of New York and Washington this is a wet plate camera that was invented in 1851 by a gentleman by the name of Frederick Scott Archer the advantage of this camera over the daguerreian type camera was the fact that you were eligible to make copies from your glass plates where your daguerreotype photography was just a one-time image the war breaks out in 1861 we head to the small town of Manassas Virginia we are going to document the War Between the States the struggle for independence and the struggle to keep the Union together as one
