The Love Covenants: New Covenant & Old Covenant Explained!

. The Old & New Covenants Divine/Human Contract . The terms of the New Covenant are the same as the terms
of the Old Covenant, obey and live,
disobey and die. . A legal covenant is simply an agreement,
contract, or written promise between two individuals that frequently constitutes
a pledge to do or refrain from
doing something. . Yahuwah has entered into
a covenant relationship with the human race. It is the most important legal
contract ever entered into. It is the agreement
between the most high and every individual
who has ever lived for the salvation
of the soul. . Many people are confused over
what the agreement is precisely and what conditions
are required in order to benefit
from that agreement. . Scripture refers to both the Old Covenant
and the New Covenant. The very terminology seems
to suggest a difference between the first Old Covenant
and another New Covenant. . Misunderstanding of the
Old and New Covenants has brought in a
whole host of errors. . The primary error that has
arisen is the belief that under the terms
of the New Covenant, the law was nailed to the cross
and is no longer binding. . Many sincere Christians argue
that with Yahushua's death, all are freed from
the Divine Law, so none is required
to keep it anymore. Such a belief contradicts
scripture, which states, "All have sinned and fall
short of the glory of Yahuwah." If the law were no longer
binding, none could sin. "For sin is the
transgression of the law." (1 John 3:4) No earthly kingdom can
exist without laws, neither can the
divine kingdom. If law were set aside, the entire kingdom would
descend into anarchy. It was the breaking
of the Divine Law that brought the
chaos of sin to earth. The Divine Law is perfect and shall stand
throughout all eternity as the only means to
happiness and holiness. . The terms of inheriting the
promises of the New Covenant are the same as the
terms for inheritance under the Old Covenant: Obey and live;
disobey and die. . The Old Covenant looked forward
to the death of Yahushua on the cross. It promised forgiveness
and cleansing for all who accepted by faith the sacrifice on their behalf
of the promised Messiah. Thus, all who lived and died
before the coming of the Savior could still be justified
by His blood shed on their behalf. A new legal covenant can
have many of the same terms as the previous
legal covenant. It does not necessarily
set aside everything in the previous
covenant or agreement. This is the case with the
New Covenant in scripture. . The New Covenant looks back
to the death of Yahushua on the cross. Like the Old Covenant, it promises forgiveness
and cleansing for all who
accept by faith the sacrifice made
on their behalf. Whether a person lived before the death of the
Messiah or afterward, the terms of the covenant
remain the same. Every individual
must accept by faith the sacrifice
made in his behalf. Yahushua's death is sufficient
for all under either covenant. . "For by grace are ye
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of Eloah: Not of works,
lest any man should boast." A mistake occurs
when people assume the death of the Messiah nailed
the old covenant to the cross. They go on to say
"We're under grace now. The law no longer
has to be kept." Scripture rejects
this teaching. "For I am Yahuwah;
I change not." (Malachi 3:6) "Yahushua is the same yesterday,
and today, and forever." (Herbews 13:6) The death of Yahushua fulfilled the divine terms
of the Old Covenant. The Creator did
give His only Son to die for the
sins of mankind. The death of Yahushua, however, did not fulfill the
human terms of the Old Covenant. Those terms
remain applicable to every new generation born. The terms are simple,
obey and live through faith in the sacrificial
death of the Savior; or disobey and die. The choice to obey or disobey remains the human part
of the covenant. The first covenant failed not because of any shortcoming in the divine part
of the agreement, rather the people failed to
perfectly keep the law of Yah, which was their part
of the agreement. Just as soon as Yahuwah
delivered the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage, he sought to renew the
Abrahamic covenant with them. In one of the most reveling
passages of scripture regarding the
divine/human covenant, scripture records
Yahuwah saying, . "Ye have seen what I
did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you
on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself. . "Now therefore,
if ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a
peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is Mine: "And ye shall be unto
me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words, which thou shalt speak unto
the children of Israel. . "And Moses came and called
for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces
all these words which Yahuwah commanded him. "And all the people
answered together, and said, All that Yahuwah hath
spoken we will do." . While the intent to keep the divine law
was good and necessary, it was not enough. . No one can keep the divine
law in his own strength. All who attempt to do so
are destined for failure, just as the children
of the Israel were. . Within six weeks, they apostatized and
built the Golden Calf. This act was a clear violation
of their covenant agreement for Yahuwah told Moses, "Go, get thee down;
for thy people, which thou broughtest
out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside
quickly out of the way which I commanded them." . Yahuwah mercifully
forgave the Israelites, but they were never able
in their own strength to keep the terms
of the agreement. The New Covenant still requires
surrender and obedience as the human terms of
the legal agreement between creator and creature. "Do we then make void
the law through faith? Yahuwah forbid,
we establish the law!" . Blood sacrifices
no longer practiced since the type or symbol has
been fulfilled in the antitype, (the reality) at calvary. However, the feasts are
still to be observed. They, like the
Seventh-Day Sabbath are holy convocations
to Yahuwah. The observance of these sacred
feasts under the New Covenant is different than
under the Old Covenant. The sacrifice
has already been made, so no more blood
is to be shed either by sacrifice
or circumcision. Instead under
the New Covenant, these holy anniversaries
are observed using the symbols that Yahushua
instituted at the last supper, the bread and the wine. And as they were eating, Yahushua took bread, and blessed it,
and brake it, and gave it to the
disciples, and said, "Take; eat this is My Body." And He took the cup,
and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,
Drink ye all of it; For this is My blood
of the new testament, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins. (Matthew 26:26-28) The word here
translated Testament comes from the
Greek word diathéké; it means a contract
or covenant. It is the same word as is translated throughout Hebrews as covenant. . And to Yahushua the
mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood
of sprinkling, that speaketh better things
than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24) The Apostle Paul clearly
saw in the Last Supper, the establishment
of a new covenant under the same terms of
obedience as the old covenant. For I have received
of the Master that which also I
delivered unto you, That the Master Yahushua
the same night in which he was
betrayed took bread: And when He had given thanks,
He brake it, and said, "Take, eat:
this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in
remembrance of Me." After the same manner
also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new
testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye
eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew
the Master's death till he come. Wherefore whosoever
shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of
the Master, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body
and blood of the Master. But let a man
examine himself, and so let him
eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth
and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh
damnation to himself, not discerning the
Yahushua's body. . This is an important
passage of Scripture; if the law were truly
no longer binding it would not be possible to partake of these
emblems unworthily causing damnation to one self. Hebrews reveals the
covenant is everlasting. . Now the Eloah of peace, that brought again from
the dead our Master Yahushua, that great shepherd
of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant. . The death of Yahushua fulfilled the divine terms
of the covenant agreement. Believers are living
under the new covenant but that is still part of
the everlasting covenant because the terms
have not changed. Salvation is still
freely offered to all who will accept it, the divine part
has been fulfilled. The human part;
obedience to the divine law is still to be fulfilled in
the lives of every individual. The Apostle Paul
wrote extensively about the two covenants. He pointed to the history
of the children of Israel as he explained the importance
of keeping the divine law as the human part of both the old and the new covenants. . For unto us was
the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached
did not profit them, not being mixed with faith
in them that heard it. For we which have believed
do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall
enter into my rest: although the
works were finished from the foundation
of the world. For he spake in
a certain place… If they shall
enter into my rest. . Seeing therefore it remaineth
that some must enter therein, and they to whom
it was first preached entered not in because
of unbelief:… There remaineth therefore a
rest to the people of Yahuwah. For he that is entered
into his rest, he also hath ceased
from his own works, as Yahuwah did from his. . Let us labour therefore
to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the
same example of unbelief. (Hebrews 4:2-6, 9-11) . The chance to enter into
a covenant relationship with the creator
is still possible. Lay aside your human efforts; accept by faith the
merits of the Savior; invite him into
your heart today; obey and live, it is possible when He lives
out His life in you by faith. . I am crucified with the
Yahushua: nevertheless I live; yet not I,
but Yahushua liveth in me: and the life which
I now live in the flesh I live by the faith
of the Son of Yah, who loved me,
and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

However, the Law covenant became in a sense "obsolete" when God announced by the prophet Jeremiah that there would be a new covenant. (Jer. 31"31-34; Heb.8:13) In 33 C.E. the Law covenant was canceled on the basis of Christ's death on the torture stake. (Col. 2:14), the new covenant replacing it.—Heb. 7:12; 9:15; Ac. 2:1-4.

  • The covenant was only meant for YAH chosen people the Israelites not all humanity bit later on the gentiles could b covered under the contract if they were to follow the laws

  • I feel like crying when reading through a number of the responses here. The ENTIRE Bible tells us to keep the law even Yahushua him-self kept the law and Kodesh (Holy) Covenants. When he was asked which commandment was the greatest, he summed the 10 into 2…The first 4 tells us how to love our Elohim (plural for God – Father and Son; Spirit being the presence/breath of Yah) and the last 6 tell us how to love our neighbour/s (other/s). Reading all the way from Matthew to Revelations tells us just as much as the Old Testament, "To Keep The Commandments" – The Whole Law of Elohim; it quite clearly states through-out Elohims (God's) Holy (Kodesh) Word that the lawless will not enter the gates of Heaven or inherit the new earth: just imagine for a moment a world without law! it would be utter chaos: Yahuwah is Order – Satan creates Chaos. Most of our countries/States laws are based on the last 6 commandments, so one MUST ask, just what part of Elohim's Law do you NOT respect or want to keep?…As for Israel, most of their true seed has spread through-out the earth. The Jews are only 4 tribes of the 12 and as we ALL know Yahushua included gentiles being counted among his chosen people because his own people did not accept him and turned their faces a way from him. Most of those that call themselves Jews that reside in their country actually have NO Hebrew heritage or blood…History also shows that Joseph's first two son's blood lines founded England and America; this is an extensive study area…The law was NOT just made for the Hebrews/Jews, it was imprinted in the minds and hearts of humans at creation and free will was also given them; what a truly loving Elohim we have, praise Yahuwah and Yahushua. The Israelite's did NOT exsist as any sort of Nation until about 300 years or so after creation. Yahuwah was re-establishing the law/covenants to them at Mount Sinai due to their 400 years of bondage in Egypt, a pagan land. All I can say, is to let the Kodesh Ruach (Holy Spirit) of El Abba Yahuwah (God the Father I AM-Be) shine light on and lead you unto all truth and understanding following where so ever he leadeth in Faith and with Patience…Shalom to All

  • I agree with this teaching except for 1 point. You said sacrifice was no longer necessary because Yahoshua full filled that requirement. That is no different than saying he fulfilled the law. Instead consider that the Father removed the ability for us to keep the sacrificial system going by taking away the temple and the levitical priesthood. Same thing as the saying that no one can keep all the law perfectly, not for lack of trying but because there are laws that do not apply to you. Such as a man observing the laws regarding menstration. The law is still in place because it is perfect but the conditions in which you are able to keep the law has changed. New priesthood (Melchizedek) no way to sacrifice according to his holy Commandments. Yahoshua did not and could not have added or removed even 1 law without being guilty of sin. We know that he did NOT sin.

  • I do not believe we today are under the new covenantI. Here are some reasons. . 1 Who was "under covenant to God"?
The people of Israel. It was a nation "created" for "covenant" purposes by God for the unfolding of an everlasting revelation for all man.
    2. If there was a "new" then logic dictates that there was an "old". What is the evidence for an "old covenant" with Israel and a new one with Israel? “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant WITH THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL and with the people of Judah. it will NOT BE LIKE THE COVENANT I [God] MADE WITH THEIR ANCESTORS" (Jer 31:31-32 NIV) What can be more plain than this? This evidence is beyond introversion. There is no question who is meant here. Not only are they specifically named but God says He had made a covenant with their “ancestors”. He is making a change of covenant conditions not a change of covenant people
3 Who was sent to Israel in order to make a new covenant with them?
“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matt 15:24 ESV)
    Who spoke these words?
Was he sent to the Gentiles of Israel's day, or to us today?
We may be beneficiaries of what Christ was sent to do through Israel but he never came to do that through us. By his own testimony he was not sent to anyone else BUT Israel. "I was sent ONLY ….to Israel"
Where was "Israel" located? In Judah and dispersed all over the land of the Jews and beyond.
    4. Christ stated, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." (Matt 26:28 NIV)
To whom did the blood of Jesus bring "forgiveness of sins" to?
The sinner under the old, the one formerly under the law. The blood (or "life in the blood", metaphorically speaking) "cleansed" them from "sin consciousness". The blood of animals could never do that. The old covenant kept the people of Israel in perpetual bondage to a defiled conscience –a bondage generated by condemnation of the Law. Nobody living today needs cleansing from sin consciousness. Nobody living today HAS EVER BEEN UNDER LAW.*
    * Its high time those folk who persist in talking about the Law in the present tense, refrain from doing so! This sends a confused message. There is NO law today and NO law ever in this age.
Nobody today constitutes "lost sheep of the house of Israel " needing cleansing from sin consciousness, Nobody today needs the application of the blood of the new covenant Lamb to cleanse from a defiled conscience. Christ was made man's "wisdom, sanctification. glorification" — "ONE NEW MAN" — complete in Christ, lacking in nothing – legally, positionally – before God.
Flora Samuel sums it up like this:
"Where there is NO law there are NO transgressions. They had laws which produced {what} was the strength of sin and the behavior, but NOW "ALL" have a CHRIST Nature, which cannot sin, knows no sin. Sin is not behavior here. The sin of the old covenant during the transition period up until AD 70, was the turning back to the Law and trying to keep it and thinking your righteousness was obtained by what you did or didn't do, instead of trusting Grace and Truth, Christ Jesus, Jesus, the Christ. After all, He (Jesus) was sent to "saved" the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel. So one must understand the true meaning of what "sin" was…. Not is….It is no more…..Our behavior is not imputed unto us as sin."
That's clear as a bell, is it not? It is to me.
God finally REMOVED SIN FROM ISRAEL just as He predicted through the prophet Daniel. We, today, are born free.
5 Jesus was Israel's mediator, and Israel's ALONE Once he Christ finished the High Priestly phase of his ministry, his mediation ceased. The old covenant man in Adam identity was then judged. All belonged to that old covenant man in Adam identity and so all lost their soul "in Adam". Yet, equally, by God's grace, all found their soul in "Christ". Every soul in Israel was "saved", just as God had promised Israel through the prophets.
Notwithstanding, those who had rejected Christ (and sinned the sin) inherited shame (in the life of their life) unto the end of that age. That sentence would not be rescinded and would remain irreversible even in the “age to come” (our age) . Henceforth, NONE would ever again stand before God, in Adam for it “COULD NOT ENTER INTO THE NEW”. The old covenant created world (its "heaven and earth") was declared as having "passed away". The world of the “man of sin and death” in Adam ceased to exist. The Law ceased to exist. The Temple ceased to exist. Israel ceased to exist (not physically but as a nation under covenant to God).
We living today WERE NOT PRESENT 2,000 years ago when all this was taking place and being fulfilled. It cannot be repeated because it WAS being fulfilled THEN and was fulfilled THEN. To claim we are under the new covenant, in my view, is to claim the work of Christ as unfinished and ongoing. Yet that audience cannot be shown to exist any longer! There are none today who are old covenanteers raised out of the old covenant. There are none today who are called to emulate Christ in his death and resurrection and sufferings. There are noen today going on to perfection to become "a kind of first-fruits" that James speaks of. The first-fruits were gathered with Christ at his coming, exactly as predicted. The harvest was gathered in due time, exactly as predicted. The number in Israel (144, 000, symbolic of completion) was gathered home (in figure).
Old things passed away; ALL THINGS became new. In the final revelation God was seen to be "all-in-all", in covenant figure, as He is in eternal reality.
Applying scripture outside of its immediate context of historical Israel, in its old and new covenant phases, simply does not work for me but creates serious problems with respect to soteriology and eschatology (both of which I find are historical in fulfilment).
Scripture shows no other people under covenant to God but ancient Israel. The new is, as I have tried to show in this post and others, where God seeks to bring Israel out of Adam and the deceptive glory of the flesh, into Christ and the genuine glory of the spirit.
When the covenant created world of Israel is a seen as a kind of matrix which God uses to demonstrate the consequences of a mindset of dualism on the one hand, and the consequences of a mindset of union on the other, it all begins to make sense. Clearly either or have a direct impact on man's relation with God, not for God but for man — in his perception of God and his place before God.
This revelation through covenant outworking with Israel brings to the attention of all mankind intrinsic reality. God did not need to use the whole world to bring about this revelation. He raised up Israel which became His the medium and the stage. But the final act took place in AD 70. There is no encore.

  • You were doing so well… BUT WHERE IN THE WORLD DID YOU GET NO MORE CIRCUMCISION FROM??? Don't say that Paul did away with the circumcision either – because that would be just a fat Lie! Please explain yourself as you may have breathed death upon all who believe this deception. Paul went to the disciples – and it was the disciples that gave like 4 Commandments or Laws for those just starting out in the faith were to perform – that Holy Spirit could enter into their Temples/ bodies…

Why Paul went to the disciples is BECAUSE OF A FEW BONE HEADS… telling those wanting to convert that they got to get their weenies WHACKED!!! FIRST THING… but if you know what the physical circumcision is all about and that you CANNOT EAT THE PASSOVER IF YOU ARE NOT PHYSICALLY CIRCUMCISED – and the disciples knew this full well. So they gave like 4 things to start their journey toward Righteousness as a Foundation for all the other Laws and Commandments to have a Firm Grounding… after all – giving up sex with temple prostitutes was fun back then… and these guys wanted to convert –

So if they could overcome the 4 things… then IT WAS ALSO STATED THAT – "ISN'T MOSES PREACHED IN EVERY SYNAGOGUE IN EVERY CITY" – let them go keep the Sabbaths… and they will hear the Words of the Laws and Commandments – and then… WHEN PASSOVER IS DRAWING NEAR – they would certainly preach the Law of Mosheh STATING TO ALL WHO WANT LIFE – "HEY… YOU CANNOT EAT THE PASSOVER UNLESS YOU HAVE YOUR WEENIE WHACKED!!!… and you know what –

You can take this from one who knows, namely – me… that when one learns to LOVE THE LAWS AND COMMANDMENTS – then they would THEN – be the first to jump in line to get their weenies WHACKED!!! But to tell some guy that he gots to get his weenie WHACKED!!! FIRST THING! DANG SCARY, and how many flies would you think you could catch with that twisted honey? You are wrong about the circumcision being done away with and you need to repent. I am praying for you – and hope you will make the right choice and quit preaching this utter non-sense… next thing you know – you will be preaching that the sheet let down from heaven for Kepha was allegedly to clean the pig – so that uncircumcised men can eat a ham Passover or something equally as insane.

Did you not read Matt 5:16-21 before? You should try believing and preaching it then… circumcision as you know is the Least of Commandments – so why you teaching hungry children NOT to do what is actually required for Salvation – JUST NOT THE VERY FIRST THING THAT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IS ALL… today the 4 Commandments that should maybe be taught to this world in the shape it is in:

~ Do not any longer lay with your pets as you do with a man or woman and if you are married to your dog – kill it and repent!

~ Do not wear man's clothing if you are a woman – and do not wear woman's clothing if you are a man!

~ Do not be a sodomite or a catamite and certainly do not be a little of both!

~ Do not teach your sons to be daughters and your daughters to be sons!

Well – I think if the disciples were here today – there would be more than 4 to start off with – but, ALL THE COMMANDMENTS AND LAWS ARE TO BE UPHELD AND KEPT… Was Yahshua circumcised? Well if He was – why not teach what He Taught and yet Teaches… TO WALK JUST AS HE WALKED!!! Why you want to teach a different Language than that of Yahshua Messiah – can you really not understand what He said? Certainly if you were of Yahshua… you could ask Him and He would tell you personally that you are a liar – just like His disciple taught in 1 Yahchanan/John 2:3-7…

If you notice – if you do not keep ALL OF THE COMMANDMENTS – then you are a Liar and there is no Light/Truth in you… so please do repent – consider yourself Righteously Rebuked – now go and Sin NO More, eh?

    I am praying for you…

  • Praise Yah.
We are to follow the all Yahs laws and statues.
Yahushua came to fulfill the law, not replace it.

  • Within the Covenants are great truths and revelation. A deeper study into the covenants facilitated by Matthew Nolan follows to ponder and study.

  • There is "NO" New Covenant why do christians continue to lie and disrespect the jewish faith and scriptures?? Yawheh God of Isreal NEVER made a New Covenant under a different religion "christianity" NO where in the hebrew bible is there any mention of a new or another covenant under a totally different religion. The commandments were NEVER eliminated this is a LIE!!! The Jews follow the laws of the Torah they NEVER stopped Christianity is a FALSE religion that spreads lies, decieves, disrespects, dishonors the jews and their bible

  • Amen. I've endured much division within the Christian Community because they want to argue the point of not having to honor the old covenant, because of the new covenant through Yeshua's death on the tree. Thank-you for sharing this bountiful information. May Yah bless you and this ministry.

  • Wow you all are so far off of the truth, I can hardly stand listening to this. The new covenant will not be established until we are welcomed into heaven . The old covenant as we call it is the covenant we are in now. Jesus was a man just like you and me that was tempted just as we are. He suffered just as we do. Yet he had the passion to be obedient to all of God's law. This is why he is are example and we are to follow in his footsteps. If we have the same passion to be obedient, we will be made perfect as he was made perfect through his supplications, prayers, and suffering he was made perfect

So why should they not pervert the last supper also?
All through time…….Adonai his symbolism for the sacifice,in the desert the camp was in the shape of a cross with the blood & flesh of the Lamb in the centre in the holy of holies……..& bread as always symbolised the word of God
I think you will agree… doesnt make sense
